News & Updates

The 2017 Annual Match is in the books.  The results are posted on the website. It was a great day for the match with beautiful weather (although a little warm) and everyone had a great time.  There were donuts before the match and Dominos pizza afterwards.  Everyone drew from a box for colored rounds to determine who won a prize after the match.  Larry Earp was the big prize winner, taking the brand new in the box Colt M4.  Clays powder, Federal Primers, and many other prizes were given out right after lunch along with the awards.   Congratualtions to clean shooters:  Smiley Jim Rich, Lawless Len, Real Tree, and Vaquero Tom.  Congratulations to overall winner Moog and ladies winner Serving Justice.  There were 28 shooters in all.  Thank you to everyone that helped put on the match and of course thank you to everyone who came.

Next month's match will be the New Years Match on January 7th.   Until next month...Happy Trails!

The grand prize for the annual match will be a brand new Colt AR-15.  You do not need to win the match, simply shooting makes you eligible to win the AR-15.   Anyone not already signed up, please go to the Annual Match page here on the website and sign up. We only need your name and shooting category and you will be all set.  Paying will be at the range before the match.  Looking forward to seeing everyone this Sunday.

For Miakka Misfits members that are members of the Manatee Gun Club, our host range for our matches, you are invited:

General Membership Meeting – Special Guest and Location Change

November 15 @ 6:00 pm - 8:30 pm

Place: Manatee Performing Arts Center – Stone Hall
502 3rd Avenue West
Bradenton, FL, 34208

Our November Monthly Membership Meeting will be Wednesday, November 15, 2017.

Please arrive by 5:45 PM for sign in. The meeting will begin promptly at 6:00 PM. This month’s meeting has been extended to 8:30 PM to allow for all new business – specifically the new master plan for the club – to be presented. Consulting engineer, Clark Vargas, will be presenting some of the exciting new plans for new and existing ranges, including the long-awaited shotgun sports venue. All members are encouraged to attend.

Dear MGAC Member,

The November General Membership Meeting is fast approaching and I want to extend a personal invitation to everyone to consider attending this important meeting.  At long last, the first draft of our new master plan for the club will be presented by our engineering and design firm.  This has been many months in the making, and there has been much speculation about the plan and what it will do for the club to meet our current and future needs.  I have reviewed the drawings and believe it is an exciting plan that will set a course for MGAC to become the best shooting sports destination in the Southeast US and something we can all be proud of as it will represent our community.

Because of the special and important nature of this event, an equally special venue has been chosen that will accommodate a significant number of members as well as support the necessary audio visual resources required so that the plan can be clearly understood by everyone and the audio portion of the program will be effective.

This month’s meeting will be held at the Manatee Performing Arts Center in Bradenton, located on the waterfront at 502 3rd Ave W, Bradenton, FL 34205 6-8:30pm. Our consulting engineer, Mr. Clark Vargas, will be presenting the plan and explaining how the various ranges will support each of our established shooting disciplines as well as finally create a shotgun sports venue that has been long needing completion since the club was established at its current location.

I hope you can make plans to attend and learn about the plans the Executive Committee has been developing in the pursuit of a better and safer range.

Respectfully,

Chris Baden, President

Manatee Gun and Archery Club

The November 2017 Match results have been posted to the website.  Today was absolutely perfect shooting weather.  Not hot and a nice breeze.      Today's sixteen shooters had a great time.  A couple of tough stages took their toll and we had no clean shooters.  Congratulations to overall winner Riverview Rattler and ladies winner Savannah Belle.

Our next match will be our Annual Match on December 3rd.  Please sign up on the website under the Annual Match tab.  Due to the renovations and construction at the range we are not having a sit down lunch this year.  There will be category and match awards along with a couple of surprises.

Until next month...Happy Trails!

In 2018, SASS will be re-allocating the SASS Sanctioned Regional structure as a result of numerous factors happening in the world of Cowboy Action Shooting and SASS today.

A Regional reallocation directly impacts all SASS members and the clubs. As such, rather than SASS arbitrarily deciding what the 2018 (and beyond) structure will be, I would greatly appreciate your feedback.

There are 2 options to consider for the structure for 2018.

Please review BOTH options in detail. You will find that each allocation has its individual merits. You will find a map image of each option directly below.

OPTION A - Image (CLICK HERE for a Downloadable/Print COPY)

OPTION B - Image (CLICK HERE for a Downloadable/Print COPY)

The Miakka Misfits needs to submit it's vote by November 1st so please send me an email This email address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it. with your preference between Option A and Option B.  Option A has 7 regions and Option B has 6 regions.  Presently there are 8 regions. The only difference to our region is that in Option B, Kentucky is in our region and in Option A, Kentucky is not in our region.  Some of the other regions have larger differences.

Below is a post from Misty at SASS Headquarters with answers to questions that have come up:

Good morning!

I've received numerous requests for additional information regarding the reallocation of the Regional structure for 2018- and I see you all have questions too!

While we made every attempt to address concerns surrounding Regional allocation in 2014, there were additional factors that have arisen in the last year that were unavoidable and needed to be addressed. So, rather than making just a few changes here and there, we decided to do a complete examination of all existing regions and Regional Championships- working toward a reallocation in which the members voices could be heard in the process- prior to a decision being made.

  1. Why the need for the reallocation? What are the “factors” you refer to?
    1. The dissolution of the Central Region & Central Divisional Championship (Sparta/US Open)
    2. Missouri members requesting to be included in the Southwest Region
    3. Mississippi members requesting to be included in the Southeast Region
    4. An overall declining member numbers
    5. Declining numbers in attendance at some Regional matches (a dilution of the program)
    6. The Northeast Regional was abruptly cancelled by its hosts in 2016
    7. 2016 will mark the final year of the Southeast Regional at Givhan’s Ferry (per the hosts)
    8. Petitions to reinstate the High Plains Region
    9. Improved Regional Sponsorship success with fewer, better attended events
  1. Where will the Regional Championships be held once the reallocation is determined?

Regional Championships have been awarded to clubs that have a track record of proven successful events. Historically, an existing organized match becomes a Regional- when the club and facilities have the resources, manpower, and support to host an event of this caliber.

In the proposed reallocation, there is the possibility of the elimination of either 1 or 2 Regions; meaning the elimination of those Regional Championships. The club’s hosting those matches will likely continue to host amazing events- the event simply won’t be the Regional Championship.

Once the Regions are determined, we will be “open” to proposals from any club/host range in each Region who is interested in hosting the Regional Championship for their Region. Existing Regional championships that have a proven successful track record will be given priority.

All TG’s will receive additional information regarding how to prepare a proposal for a Regional Championship to distribute to the clubs in their Region that have an interest in applying for a Regional Championship.

I hope this helps.

Until next month... Happy Trails!
